MC: "We have two headliners at the theater -- I'd like to bring them both to you tonight. First: the Bird, Charlie Parker... Charlie? This is Parker with Strings... Charlie, welcome back; it's nice having you with us." CP: "Hello, it's good to be back." MC: "You've got quite a different aggregation with you this time, haven't you?" CP: "Yes, I have some bits have changed." MC: "Uh-huh. A full string section back there, including cello and viola and even a harp, right?" CP: "That's right." MC: "Whatcha gonna do?" CP: "I think we'll do a tune of Jimmy Mundy's entitled 'Easy to Love'..." MC: "'Easy to Love' -- I'll tell ya what, if you will, if you'll tell the audience a little something about it, I'm gonna move back there and get that mic of ours centered so we can pick up the strings, all right?" CP: "All right... This was an idea of mine from a few years ago, about seven, eight months ago I was lucky enough to record it, on the Mercury label. Six sides were released in an album. We're not gonna do any of those sides; instead we'll do a tune that was arranged by the inimitable Jimmy Mundy. We sincerely hope you enjoy 'Easy to Love'..."

c | Introduction (Unknown MC) | 1:07
"There you have Parker with Strings -- Charlie Parker and the string group, 'Easy to Love'... It wasn't very, very many years ago that a very scared young lady stepped out on this stage introduced as the next on a list of amateurs, and I think one of the most thrilling experiences I've ever had in a... few years in this business was seeing the young lady wrap this house up, put it in her packet, and walk right off with it. The young lady then, the young lady today... the gone Miss Vaughan. Sarah Vaughan. One of my favorite people of all time. Sarah, welcome back to the Apollo." SV: "Well, I'm so glad to be here." MC: "Uh-huh. We're always glad to have you here. Pretty dress, too." SV: "Thank you." MC: "Saw a pretty dress you were wearing before, too." SV: "Thank you." MC: "Uh-huh. Who picks 'em out?" SV: "Me." MC: "Oh, you... Miss Vaughan has at the moment probably the biggest record she's ever had on the Columbia label. Believe me, it's a gone side; and Sarah, I don't think there's anything else you can sing tonight other than 'I Love the Guy'..."

CP: "That's correct." SS: "Who had anything to do with that?" CP: "Well, Neal Hefti, and there was quite a large band on it, with Neal Hefti listed as composer and arranger." SS: "Good. Ah, we also didn't play that because I saw that you had it on the list for this morning, and we had a lot of requests for it and, ah, it's a beautiful thing, Bird. We get so many calls for it, it's marvelous." CP: "Thank you, Sid." SS: "How about, I'd like to ask you about this new recording that you just made, 'Leap Frog' -- is that the old 'Leap Frog' that Les Brown made with..." CP: "No, it's another thing altogether, it's an original, something of mine that Norman Granz decided he wanted to call 'Leap Frog'." SS: "And the other side you call 'Relaxing with Lee' -- who's Lee?" CP: "I don't have the slightest idea. They name those tunes after I leave the studio." SS: "They name it af... Could be Lee Konitz, it could be Lee, ah, somebody, I don't know... You know I only did this, Bird, because you have such a wonderful speaking voice, and not everybody gets a chance to hear you, and I thought that, you know, just gettin' you to talk a little bit would make everybody feel fine. Well, just for kicks -- we've stopped taking requests, you know -- but just for kicks, it'd be real wonderful if somebody from Kansas City... Hey Garrity! Hey, ah, Dick Lyons! Dick? You listening? Stop runnin' your mouth with Garrity. This is the free hour -- this is the hour you don't work. So listen, you may get a call from Kansas City. If you do, ah, would you sort of rush it out? Anybody from Kansas City who's listening in this morning, call Justin 6 5454. By they time they get in, I got news for you, we'll be off. But anyhow, if they can get the call through, call Justin 6 5454, and I'm sure that Bird would like to hear from his friends. Bird, what we gonna do next?" "Yes, tonight from Birdland on Broadway, the jazz corner of the world, right here at 52nd Street and Broadway in the heart of New York City, we're sending greetings to the city where jazz began, and that's New Orleans, down Louisiana way. Loyola University and New Orleans have always had an outstanding interest in all kinds of music, for instance the lovely Marguerite Piazza of our NBC Show of Shows is a New Orleans alumna. Then there's Charles Anthony of the Metropolitan Opera, and trumpet man Al Hirt, who's made a name for himself with many of the top bands in the nation. And of course Loyola University is a symbol of the great educational tradition of the Jesuits, which goes back more than four hundred years. But we're interested in the lighter side of the American school and college life tonight -- as we salute Loyola University. So for collegians everywhere, and for students, alumni, and friends of Loyola University in particular... Charlie Parker and Strings, now play 'Repetition'..."
